THE start of Newmarket's July Festival means summer racing has really kicked off.
I've had a little look through today's top-quality cards and come up with my best bets of the day.
4.25 Corncrake – Richard Hannon's contender is due to run off a 6lb higher mark than this next time out and he looks a good thing here.
He couldn't have done it more easily in a Classified Stakes on Saturday and connections are looking to strike again while the iron's hot.
Conditions are ideal and he can take this on the way to better things.
3.00 Blown By Wind – Mark Johnston loves a winner at this meeting and his top-weight has a much better chance than his 20-1 price-tag would suggest.
He had a nightmare passage at Chester last time out and two starts ago when pushing a potential Group performer close in a handicap at this track.
Six furlongs gives him the chance to wind it up from the front and the booking of James Doyle is a big positive.
Bully's Thursday Bankers
Doncaster 4.25 – Corncrake
Newmarket 3.00 – Blown By Wind
Carlisle 5.55 – The Bull
Newbury 7.15 – Match Maker
Epsom 8.10 – Teodora De Vega
5.55 The Bull – He might be my namesake but Ben Haslam's charge certainly has a big chance here if getting away from the stalls a little quicker.
He showed improved form in a first-time visor last time, staying on stoutly to just lose out in second.
This extra furlong looks a good move and he can strike for the first time on turf.
7.15 Match Maker – Reappeared from a hefty absence with a win in novice company last month and should come on for that run now.
The step up to 1m2f should be ideal and a mark of 80 looks more than reasonable.
8.10 Teodora De Vega – From a very good family and produced a much more encouraging performance last time on handicap debut.
This better ground looks more suitable and she can do the business now.
