MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly launched a £45million offer for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic.

The Red Devils are desperate to sign a central defender this summer with the club also keen to bring Leicester ace Harry Maguire to Old Trafford.

United are believed to be confident that they can bag the England international ahead of rivals Manchester City for £75m.

According to reports in Italy via the Daily Mirror, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Milenkovic as an alternative to the former Hull defender.

It has been claimed that United have contacted the Serie A club regarding the transfer of Milenkovic.

The 6ft 5in Serb – who has been capped 14 times by his country – has been at Fiorentina since 2017 after joining from Partizan Belgrade.

Milenkovic, 21, was reportedly Jose Mourinho's No1 transfer target before he was sacked by United in December.

And the club were alleged to be in talks with the player in January with Solskjaer believed to be a fan.
