Debbie Allen was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s Keeping the Promise gala for World AIDS Day.
“It means a lot to me that we’re all here . . . This is a war — a war that we still have not won, but we’re standing tall and fighting it — fighting back really strong,” the star said.
The evening included presentations by Allen’s sister, Phylicia Rashad, as well as George Faison, Misty Copeland and Jennifer Holliday, who received a standing ovation after performing her signature song “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from “Dreamgirls.”
