It looks like all of those “Hey Girl” memes about Ryan Gosling’s universal appeal are actually based in some truth. Longtime girlfriend, Eva Mendes, recently answered a fan question on her Instagram page, unveiling the curtain on the private couple’s eating habits leaving some to wonder if there’s anything Gosling can’t do. Spoiler alert: the answer is no.
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling lead a private life together
It’s not often Eva Mendes or her longtime love, Ryan Gosling, speak out about their relationship. Though the two have been together since they co-starred in the 2011 film, A Place Beyond the Pines, they’re rarely seen out together.
It wasn’t until recently did either of the two begin speaking in public about their relationship. Even then, it’s elusive and oftentimes, guarded and understandably so.
During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in Oct. 2019, Mendes joked she and Gosling might be “bulldozing parents,” because of the unique acting histories.
“I heard of the term helicopter parenting, have you guys heard of that? I’m like, well, what else are we supposed to do? They’re this big. We have to be on top of them every second. The stakes are really high, so yeah, I’m a helicopter parent. And then, I heard the bulldozing and I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m probably a bulldozing parent, too.’”
Together, the couples have two children — Esmerelda and Amada. Mendes recently clapped back against online haters who said she was “getting old,” by showing gratitude for the aging process because it’s “a reminder that I’m still here.”
Regardless of what little the couple shares, or doesn’t share, about their private lives, the nation remains fascinated by their every move.
Mendes explained who does most of the cooking

On way home after a long day. Really wanted to thank the best catering service ever @electricavenuechef Gracias to Karen and Austin who make delish clean food with so much love. And it’s not just the food, it’s their beautiful smiles, it’s the music they play while they cook, its all of it. Aaaaand they sent me home with these heart shaped macaroons so you know I’m a lifer now!! ?
As it turns out, the La La Land star does more than light up a movie screen or turn heads on a red carpet. The Canadian actor cooks and bakes, too.
Immediately after Mendes posted a short video to her Instagram page showing off the heart-shaped macaroons she received from Electric Avenue Chef, fans took to the comments to ask a little more about how she and Gosling spend their time in the kitchen.
“Ryan is an amazing chef AND baker,” Mendes replied. “For reals. Incredible. No joke. I’m not sure that what I do is cooking. It’s more like steaming veggies and juicing and making rice. He really cooks. I survive.”
Just in case you didn’t already love all the Gosling is as a man, father, actor, and life partner, he’s apparently a chef, too.
Some feel like Gosling raises the bar a little too high

For all the men out there that think Gosling is a little too good to be true, Mendes seems to agree (sorry, fellas).
“I know that I’m with the person I’m supposed to be with,” Gosling previously told Entertainment Tonight. When asked what attracted him to his [now] partner, he responded with, “That she’s Eva Mendes. There’s nothing else I’m looking for.”
Before the two began sporadically providing insight into their relationship, Mendes echoed Gosling’s sentiments, telling Women’s Health that having kids wasn’t something she was interested in until she met Gosling.
“I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have…not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him,” she said.
When Gosling accepted a Golden Globe in 2017 for La La Land, he thanked Mendes for the first time publically.
“I would like to try and thank one person properly and say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano, and having one of the best experiences I ever had on a film,” he said. “My lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer.
He continued: “If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today—so, sweetheart, thank you. To my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you.”
Then, as if he weren’t Ryan Gosling enough, he dedicated the win to Mendes’s brother, Juan who died just before Amada was born. Gosling has raised the bar. Step up or forfeit the game.
