Gethin Jones has become known for his love of Strictly Come Dancing having competed on the series back in 2007. Since then Gethin has been a part of the Strictly It Takes two team, revealing the latest from the dancer’s rehearsals. Ahead of the 2020 series coming to an end this weekend Gethin spoke to of his own Strictly experience.

Back in 2007, Gethin competed on Strictly Come Dancing alongside his dance partner Camilla Dallerup.

Camila left the series a year later after winning the show with Holby City actor Tom Chambers.

In 2007, Gethin and Camilia reached the final of his series and set the highest score for his Jive in week 11.

Throughout the series, while Gethin also found himself in the bottom two twice and ultimately placed third in the final with singer Alesha Dixon taking home the glitterball trophy.

Looking back on his time on the show Gethin joked about how young he looked, saying: “We are doing a feature on It Takes Two at called the attic and with Ian and we look back and in one I look about 12 when I’m doing the Cha Cha.

“I mean the production values and the ambition since then in the last 13 years is like two different shows.

“I loved it. It was the best experience ever and my family loved it my sister and my mum are fans so they will never forget it and yeah it’s brilliant.

He added: “I still love to watch it every Saturday night.”

Gethin also spoke of how the time on the show goes so quick with this year being no exception.

In previous years Strictly Come Dancing has started in early September however this year amid coronavirus restrictions the series was set back to mid-October.

Gethin explained: “I think this year is worse than ever because normally this would be halfway through and it’s ending on Saturday.

“It has been so intense and quick but so exciting because we had a couple of theme nights and then suddenly your in the semi-final.

“But it is a totally magical bubble and that’s why I am so glad I enjoyed every second of it for what it was.

“I got to do all the dances, I couldn’t dance at all, learnt loads, friends for life and I’m never going to get it back.”

This year the final four include Bill Bailey dancing with Oti Mabuse, Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer, Masie Smith and Gorka Marquez and HRVY and Janette Manrara.

On this year’s final Gethin said he can’t wait to see who will win, saying: “Especially when it gets to the final.

“I’ll watch it as a viewer and be excited about whoever wins on Saturday night, and I really mean that I think this year we are just enjoying having it on our telly.”

The Strictly Come Dancing final will air at 6pm on Saturday on BBC One.
