Mena Suvari confirms she is pregnant with first child

Mena Suvari has confirmed she is pregnant with her first child – a son – with husband Michael Hope.

The actress, 41, confirmed the exciting news on Instagram, sharing a snap of her cradling her baby bump.

Mena wrote: ‘The greatest, most precious gift has come our way. Through all the trauma, through all the struggle, through all the doubt, our little angel has chosen us.

‘I will never have enough words to describe my love for this beautiful soul coming into our lives, but I wont ever stop trying to give him the best life possible.’

She added: ‘You’re all I’ve ever wanted and the most important thing that will ever matter.

‘We love you, #BabyHope. We welcome you, honour, and cherish you.’

Mena later opened up about her pregnancy to People, telling the publication that it’s been ‘emotional’ yet ‘weird’ to find out she was having a baby.

‘It’s still this process for me of believing it and accepting that something this beautiful could happen to me,’ she explained.

‘It’s been a very emotional experience. It’s very weird finding out – I was like, I can’t believe it!’

She added: ‘I’ve had to learn how to be a different way with my appetite and sleep habits and not pushing myself, asking for help – all these things are hard for an independent women!’

The American Beauty star admitted that the pregnancy came as a surprise to her and her husband, who tied the knot in 2018.

Mena said that she and Michael had begun trying for a baby earlier this year, with the pregnancy eventually happening after months of disappointment.

She admitted feeling ‘stressed out’ that it wasn’t happening at first, even though she was ‘recording her temperature every morning and peeing on ovulation sticks’, eventually taking a step back after a string of negative pregnancy tests.

Mena continued: ‘I’m 41 and there’s the air of like, I’ve got one foot in the grave and good luck.

‘I was being really open like the Aquarian that I am – if this is my path or not.’

It wasn’t until she travelled to Georgia in July to start filming for a new project that she started to experience symptoms, later taking a test which turned out to be positive.

‘It was a huge surprise, an absolute miracle!’ she exclaimed. ‘It was something that we’ve always wanted, but a couple months before, I had stopped calculating. I pulled back and let go, which apparently they say that that’s when it happens.’

Mena also pays credit to the fact she is able to trust in her own body, despite some people questioning her decision to wait until she was older to have a child, adding woman should feel ‘empowered with themselves’.
