The winter of 2018 may be remembered as the moment that YouTubers took over mainstream entertainment.
Hot on the heels of Joe Sugg making the leap from online vlogger to Strictly Come Dancing runner-up, there comes another YouTuber that has blown the music charts apart.
Ladbaby, who is the brainchild of father-of-two, Mark Hoyle, is proving to be the most unlikeliest pop star of the year.
With Ariana Grande and Ava Max originally tipped to battle it out for the coveted Christmas number one slot, Ladbaby’s ode to sausage rolls has taken them all by surprise.
While Ariana might find this tune a bit too much to swallow, it has hit the right note with Ladbaby’s social media fanbase, who have downloaded the single in their droves.
The sausage roll song is based upon Starship’s 1980s glam-rock song We Built This City and the self-proclaimed ‘dad blogger’ has hit on a winnng formula that has delivered a number one hit.
Born in Nottingham, Mark found fame blogging about his journey from "lad to dad" after the birth of his two sons with wife Roxanne.
The 31-year-old, who lives in Hemel Hempstead, launched his YouTube channel in 2016 to document the pitfalls of fatherhood.
At the time of his win he had nearly 500,000 subscribers.
This is not the only major accolade has been bestowed upon the YouTuber this year.
Mark has also fended off another pair of famous names to win the Clas Ohlson celebrity dad of the year award – beating Prince William and former One Direction star Liam Payne.
It is a win-win situation for Ladbaby who will not only write himself into the record books but will also raise much needed funds for The Trussell Trust, which supplies food banks, as proceeds from the single will be going to the charity.
