I exposed the chiropractor who filmed me naked by finding his spy camera – he had 200 victims including an 11-year-old

A MUM has revealed how she exposed a creepy chiropractor who filmed her naked – and helped get him jailed.

Karlie Staples, 29, from Adelaide, Australia, was naked preparing for a massage where she realised she was being taped.

Sick Peter Snodgrass had hidden a secret recording pen in the room and had 216 other victims, some as young as 11.

The 29-year-old bravely reported him and exposed his awful crimes, as well as saving her mum Deborah from becoming his next victim.

Now waiving her right to anonymity, Karlie tells her story…

Me and my mum Deborah were walking out of the supermarket when we spotted a pop-up stall, promoting a local chiropractor.

“Free consultations,” he said as we walked past.

As a mum, running around after my three kids, my back often ached at the end of a busy day.

My mum has a bad back too – so we went over for a chat.

The chiropractor, Peter Snodgrass, was a tall, handsome and balding man. He was very bubbly and friendly.

“I’m sure I could help you both,” he said – so we happily booked a session.

“What a nice, genuine man,” I said to Mum as we walked away.

I took my youngest London, then two, when me and mum went to the appointment next week.

After the receptionist got us to fill in some forms about our medical history, Peter said “come with me Karlie,” and led me to a changing room.

“We’ll do an X-ray first, so just undress and put the gown on that’s in the changing room,” he said.

I’d never been to a chiropractor before so I didn’t really know what to expect.

As I slid my jeans back on, I spotted an upright pen standing on the changing room shelf. It had a red flashing light

“Take off my bra and undies too?” I asked. “Yes, everything,” Peter replied.

So I went into the changing room, stripped naked and put the open-backed gown on.

When I came out, Peter positioned me for the X-Rays, took them and then told me to get dressed.

As I slid my jeans back on, I spotted an upright pen standing on the changing room shelf. It had a red flashing light.

I picked it up and saw two tiny lenses and two audio holes. Right away, I knew what it was.

"A spy camera! He’s just filmed me naked!" I thought, horrified.

My heart raced. “You OK in there?” Peter called.

“Be out in a moment,” I replied, fighting panic but breaking into an instant sweat.

"Did my voice give me away?" I wondered. "Is he going to rape me?"

I was absolutely terrified. Quickly, I unscrewed the pen. An SD memory card was inside so I knew I’d actually been recorded.

Not quite knowing what to do next, I just hid the pen behind some pamphlets on the shelf.

Peter had been filming women and girls, some as young as 11, for ten years. There were over 200 victims

Then I got dressed and went to Mum in reception.

“I’ve found a recording device mum. He videoed me,” I hissed. She went as white as a ghost.

I told her where it was, just as Peter called me to the treatment area and told me to lay face down on a massage table.

Almost paralysed by fear, I obeyed. It was like I was outside my own body, watching. I felt powerless to say no.

London was in her pram beside me as Peter began working on my back.

But he was only using one hand – and I heard a rustling noise.

Lifting my head, I turned and saw he was rifling through London’s nappy bag.

I was furious. Now he’d brought my little girl into it.

Instinctively, I leapt up to protect her. “What are you doing? Are you looking for something?” I snapped.

He recoiled back. “You’re looking for that recording device, aren’t you?” I yelled.

Another client, a woman, heard all the fuss. Incredibly, she stood up for him.

“I’ve been coming to this man for years and he would never do something like that,” she protested. I glared at her in astonishment.

“You should be proud of yourself,” mum always tell me. “If it wasn’t for you he’d still be filming women and kids

I marched out of the treatment room and Mum handed me the pen, which she'd grabbed while I was in there.

“We’re going,” I said, grabbing the pen.

But as I pushed London to the reception door, Peter appeared, gripped my left wrist and forced my arm up my back.

“Get off!” I screamed in pain. Now I was really scared. I burst into tears and London screamed in her pram.

Then me and Peter struggled. I weigh just 9st 6lbs and am only 4ft 11ins – whereas Peter was 5ft 11ins and weighed 15st 10lbs.

I had no chance against him. He forced my hand open and snatched the pen back, then he disappeared into the X-Ray room.

Moments later, he returned. “Call the police. I’ve just been set up,” he ordered his receptionist.

I gasped in shock. He claimed I was making it all up so I could make some kind of financial claim against him.

I still had the pen but when I unscrewed it, the SD card was missing.

“Where’s the SD card?” I sobbed. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Peter smirked.

The police arrived and I told them what had happened, then they spoke to Peter.

He denied everything and eventually my mum and I left, shaking and traumatised.

A few days later, detectives came to see me at home.

They’d searched Peter’s treatment rooms and home – and what they’d found was staggering.

“There were other cameras,” one of the officers said. “And hundreds of photos and videos.”

'He had hundreds of victims'

Peter had been filming women and girls, some as young as 11, for ten years.

Disgustingly, he was a dad to three teenagers. I felt sorry for them.

There were over 200 victims – including mothers, daughters and sisters.

It was as if he liked to ‘collect’ family groups.

But there were also videos of his own girlfriends, some of who had first been patients, and friends' kids he’d known since birth.

Most of the videos focused on breasts.

The betrayal of trust was disgusting.

Peter faced 157 counts of secretly filming women, 50 counts of making child porn and possession of child porn.

He’d also given degrading names to the videos.

They included ‘hot MILF,’ ‘fat’, ‘jugs’, ‘giant jugs,’ ‘pussy’, and ‘great tits’.

Most disturbingly of all, he’d called the video of the 11-year-old girl, “new boobs.”

While secretly recording the girl, he’d been chatting with her father in another room.

Another 12-year-old was pictured in her school uniform. Peter knew exactly what he was doing.

The law on being filmed/photographed naked without your consent

Anybody who films or photographs another person naked, without their permission, is breaking the law.

As of January, this includes anyone who films their partner during sex – after the unsuccessful appeal of a man who taped himself having sex with prostitutes.

Upskirting, also known as voyeurism, was made illegal last year.

To report a crime as a victim, go to your local police station or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you want to remain anonymous.

You can also call Victim Support, for free, on 0808 1689 111.

In an emergency, always dial 999.

By the time his case came to trial at the Supreme Court in Adelaide, he’d obviously realised the strength of the case against him.

He pleaded guilty to the secret filming charges and to assaulting me.

Sickeningly, his defence blamed grief for his actions.

Peter’s wife had died from cancer just before he started filming women and children.

“That poor woman would be spinning in her grave,” I raged to mum.

The judge said Snodgrass, then 52, was obsessed with breasts and jailed him for ten years and three months, with a non-parole period of eight years and two months, in February this year.

“Should have been 20 years,” I told mum. “He filmed little girls.”

The police found no footage of his victims online, but I can’t help wondering.

“You should be proud of yourself,” mum always tell me. “If it wasn’t for you he’d still be filming women and kids.”

I am proud, but now I can’t get undressed in a changing room or at the GP’s without wondering who is spying on me.

Thanks to my pervert chiropractor, I’ve got PTSD.

Technology makes it all too easy for predators like Peter Snodgrass.

The hidden cameras can be in pens, clocks, light fittings, stuffed toys, almost anything.

Women need to be aware. I won’t get undressed anywhere now without checking for hidden cameras.

And my advice to any woman who uses a changing room anywhere is to do exactly the same.
