Deadheads, get ready to raise a glass.
Dogfish Head, the acclaimed Delaware brewing operation, is partnering with iconic jam band the Grateful Dead. American Beauty, a pale ale brewed with granola and wildflower honey named after the band’s landmark 1970 LP.
First introduced by the partnership in 2013, the 6.5 percent ABV American Beauty returns for a limited run in 2018 before becoming available in six packs of 12-ounce bottles throughout 2019.
Over the years, Dogfish Head has similarly created beers for and with fellow musical artists including The Flaming Lips, Miles Davis, Deltron 3030, Pearl Jam and Guided by Voices.
Last week, Grateful Dead legacy act Dead and Company announced a 19-date summer 2019 tour making stops at Citi Field in Queens and BB&T Pavilion in Camden.
“After more than 50 years of performing in front of fans all over the world, folks remain fiercely loyal to the Grateful Dead due to the organically imaginative, creative and accessible culture they nurture across all artistic platforms,” Dogfish head CEO and founder Sam Calagione said in a statement.
“We, at Dogfish, are inspired by their music, along with their unprecedented ability to bridge long-lasting, meaningful connections with fans for decades on end. We’re thrilled to collaborate with the Dead for a second iteration of American Beauty and hope fans of free-spirited music and independent beer will join in welcoming back this classic pale ale.”
Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux, a Bergen County native, is also set to collaborate with the brewery on endeavors including an immersive storytelling experience at Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats brewpub in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and the company’s tasting room in Milton, Delaware in early February.
