A new wave of UK retirement properties could soon see pensioners with a handsome amount in the bank enjoying homes with the facilities of a five-star hotel.

A major property developer is planning US-style luxury accommodation for over 65s in the UK, with perks including roof-top gyms, swanky pools and a hotel-style concierge at the end of a phone 24 hours a day.

‘Later living developer’ Elysian Residences is launching luxury blocks in North London and South East England, and has announced that it’s even teamed up with historic bookshop Foyles to create a private library in the swish residences.

Retirement has never looked so good: US-style luxury apartment blocks, specifically designed for well-heeled residents over the age of 65, promise the facilities you might find in a five-star hotel…and they’re coming to the UK

Later living developer Elysian has unveiled showhomes at its off-plan 101 apartment-block property in Stanmore, North London, where one-bed properties start from £490,000

The off-plan property has seen almost 25 per cent of its luxury properties already sold as OAPs snap up the chance to live in luxury. Pictured: a showhome shot of a kitchen/living room area at The Landsby in Stanmore

Residents wanting to work-out in swanky surrounds will have access to health club facilities akin to a luxury private members club

Wealthy OAPs at the Elysian residence in Stanmore, the Landsby, are in line for one of the literary bolt-holes. Facilities at the Landsby already mimic those in a luxury hotel, with a coffee lounge and bar, a fine-dining restaurant rooftop health club and medical suite already on offer. There’s also a beauty salon and underground parking in the new-build block, which has 101 one and two-bedroomed apartments.

The new libraries will house hundreds of books and flow into the hotel-style lobby. A central limestone fireplace and hearth with an Art Deco-style antique glass mirror above will provide a focal point for keen readers.

The historic London bookshop Foyles will curate the collection and residents will be able to borrow books to take up to their apartments.

And there’s even a fine dining restaurant for those who want to eat gourmet food without venturing too far

Elysian Residences Chief Executive Officer, Gavin Stein, says: ‘Libraries are an important cornerstone of a vibrant community, offering visitors a place of relaxation, learning and discovery.

‘We wanted to provide our residents with a relaxing reading environment curated with the latest high-quality books and other publications, and this is why Elysian Residences chose to partner with renowned bookseller Foyles to ensure our libraries provide a unique and valuable resource.’

The first phase release of apartments at the Landsby were launched off-plan and the scheme is now 25 per cent reserved, say the developers.

Prices at the Landsby start from £490,000 for a one-bedroom, £720,000 for a two-bedroom and £1,250,000 for a penthouse apartment: all properties come with a private outdoor space.
