A new wave of UK retirement properties could soon see pensioners with a handsome amount in the bank enjoying homes with the facilities of a five-star hotel.
A major property developer is planning US-style luxury accommodation for over 65s in the UK, with perks including roof-top gyms, swanky pools and a hotel-style concierge at the end of a phone 24 hours a day.
‘Later living developer’ Elysian Residences is launching luxury blocks in North London and South East England, and has announced that it’s even teamed up with historic bookshop Foyles to create a private library in the swish residences.

Wealthy OAPs at the Elysian residence in Stanmore, the Landsby, are in line for one of the literary bolt-holes. Facilities at the Landsby already mimic those in a luxury hotel, with a coffee lounge and bar, a fine-dining restaurant rooftop health club and medical suite already on offer. There’s also a beauty salon and underground parking in the new-build block, which has 101 one and two-bedroomed apartments.
The new libraries will house hundreds of books and flow into the hotel-style lobby. A central limestone fireplace and hearth with an Art Deco-style antique glass mirror above will provide a focal point for keen readers.
