I am a 60-year-old widow and my family put no thoughts into my presents at all

DEAR DEIDRE: MY family gave me Christmas presents I’m sure they bought last minute at the local garage. There was no thought at all.

I am a widow turning 60 and I feel they take me for granted and I am being used.

I have a daughter of 36. She got pregnant as a teenager and wasn’t ready to be a mother. She and my grandson lived with me along with my son. I did two jobs to provide for us all.

My daughter met a new partner and moved out when my grandson was 12 but I still give him his tea after school to help her out.

My son is 31 now and lives with his girlfriend. They work long hours and rely on me to do a lot of their shopping, washing and cooking.

Yet my Christmas ‘gifts’ were some tired garage flowers, some Prosecco – which I don’t like – and some dodgy brand of chocolates. None of them seem to realise I have feelings.

Say you put yourself out for all of them but you’re going to stop unless they show they appreciate your contribution to their lives.
