  • Also in attendance was Prince William’s ex-girlfriend, society beauty Olivia Hunt

  • Henry van Straubenzee was close friend of royal brothers and died in April 2002

Pippa and Carole Middleton looked like two peas in a pod this evening as the pair arrived for a charity carol concert.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s mother and sister both looked in high spirits as they arrived together at St Luke’s Church, just off the King’s Road in Chelsea, south-west London.

The event was organised by the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund – set up shortly after the 18-year-old, who was a close friend of Princes William and Harry, died in a car crash in 2002.

Pippa, 35, who attended last year with her husband James Matthews, sported a chic green belted coat over her outfit, which was visibly burgundy from its high neck design.

Meanwhile Carole also donned the on-trend colour in the form of a skirt, while both women opted for black tights and ankle boots.

Pippa and Carole, 64, wore their glossy brunette tresses in a similar style – down with a side-parting – and opted for relatively minimal make-up, enhancing their natural beauty.

Also in attendance was society beauty Olivia Hunt – a former girlfriend of Prince William, before he met Kate Middleton.

This year both Prince William and Prince Harry were absent from the service.

The Duke of Cambridge is on a tour of the Middle East while the Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan Markle are on a six-week break from royal duties.

The pair are believed to be out of the country, with reports they spent Thanksgiving ‘celebrating with close family’ on a ‘long-time trip to the US’.

Last year then-pregnant Meghan accompanied Harry to the carol service and addressed the congregation at the church in Chelsea.

A guest at the service told MailOnline: ‘It was one of the best.’ Another woman said: ‘Meghan spoke very clearly, it was a fantastic service. They were both great.’

In a forward letter, Prince William wrote: ‘My brother and I are proud to have been patrons of the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund since it was established in 2007.

‘Back in 2009, it was suggested that a Christmas carol service could be held to boost funds for projects in Uganda.

‘This year marks the tenth annual carol service and, thanks to the support is given each year by many of you here tonight, the tickets have sold out everywhere within two weeks of going on sale.

‘Since it’s inception, the mission of the charity has remained the same to improve the quality of schools in impoverished rural Uganda by investing in buildings and resources.’

Harry and William remain close friends with the surviving van Straubenzee brothers, with both attending the 2013 wedding of Thomas van Straubenzee.

Prince Harry once described Henry as a ‘Polzeath surfing legend and ladies’ man with whom we shared so many special memories’.

He died instantly when a car in which he was a passenger hit a tree outside Ludgrove preschool in Berkshire, where he and the princes were once pupils.

Henry was a classmate of Prince Harry’s, while his older brother Thomas was a friend of the Duke of Cambridge. The foursome were said to be inseparable as they were growing up.

The foundation set up in his name is currently helping more than 28,000 children across 40 nursery, primary and secondary schools in Uganda.
