Mandy Moore is mourning the loss of her dog Joni on social media, revealing that she passed away on Nov. 30.
“Last night, very unexpectedly, we lost our Joni girl,” Moore, 36, wrote on Instagram Tuesday. “Yes, she was almost 13. Yes, she had pretty major surgery a week ago to remove a mass on her liver but she was recovering really well. Until last night.”
“I knew something was amiss when she, lifelong food-obsessed, didn’t finish her dinner and couldn’t get comfortable in bed (despite being on pain meds),” Moore continued. “My mama intuition told me to bring her in and I’m glad we did.
Moore reminisced about finding Joni online at The Barking Lot rescue outside of San Diego in 2008, adding that she was “instantly smitten” and “telling her that it was just us against the world now.”
Calling Joni “my first love and best friend,” Moore said that she was “sad she won’t get the chance to meet her human brother soon,” joking that “maybe she wasn’t ready to share.”
“I will love and miss you forever, my Joni,” the “This Is Us” star finished. “Thank you for beyond a lifetime of love.”
Moore announced in September that she and husband Taylor Goldsmith were expecting a baby boy in 2021. She was previously married to Ryan Adams, whom she said was “psychologically abusive” and controlling during their seven-year marriage from 2009 to 2016. The pair had no children.
