Though it seemed impossible only a few months ago, when the Sussexes had a huge debt to pay British taxpayers and no prospects for any real income, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex are thriving outside of the British royal family.
When the pair stepped down from their roles as senior working royals, the coronavirus (COVID-19) came thundering across the globe. However, as restrictions have lifted in California, the pair are getting back to work. They’ve been spotted doing charity work and they’ve attended virtual events and talks.
However one of their recent talks for TIME’s 100 Influential people has led to the royal shading Prince Harry.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry urged Americans to vote
Since she is no longer a senior working royal, Meghan has openly said that she will be voting in the upcoming US Presidential Election. She also expressed her excitement about seeing Senator Kamala Harris as the Vice Presidential nominee.
Up until recently, the Duke of Sussex has remained silent about politics as he’s done for his entire life. However, that just changed. During TIME magazine’s TIME100 special Prince Harry said,
This election, I’m not going to be able to vote here in the U.S. But many of you may not know that I haven’t been able to vote in the U.K. my entire life. As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity.
This sent U.K. citizens in a tailspin.
The British royal family is not happy with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
At present, the Sussexes are not using their HRH titles, they are not working royals, and they’ve repaid their debt to taxpayers for funds used to renovate their home, Frogmore Cottage. However, like royal fans, the royal family isn’t exactly happy about the pair speaking about politics.
In fact, the royals were already reportedly miffed because of Prince Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal. A royal insider told Entertainment Tonight that the royals are, “concerned Meghan and Harry’s deal will distract from the work of other senior royals including Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William, Prince Charles, and Camilla Parker Bowles.”
The Sussexes did not inform the queen about their Netflix deal, things between Prince William and Prince Harry still remain a bit tense, and Prince Philip reportedly thinks his grandson abandoned his royal duties to become a “self-centered celebrity.”
The British royal family just shaded Prince Harry
In response to the Sussexes’ TIME 100 speech on voting where Meghan said, “When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter, because you do, and you deserve to be heard.,” the royals have just shaded Prince Harry.
Royal reporter Rebecca English shared Buckingham Palace’s response on Twitter. She wrote,
They are not commenting on this, adding. The Duke is not a working member of the Royal Family and any comments he makes are made in a personal capacity.
We’re just glad the Sussexes can be themselves.
