Manny Machado has visited The Bronx many times in his career, but never quite like he did Wednesday.
The free agent had his long-anticipated meeting with the Yankees two days after he began his tour with the White Sox in Chicago.
General manager Brian Cashman, manager Aaron Boone and CC Sabathia were among those who arrived at Yankee Stadium shortly before Machado was driven inside at 12:30.
Machado left around 2.
During that time, Machado would have been expected to answer for his comments about not being “Johnny Hustle” during the playoffs and his controversial play during the playoffs, when he spiked Milwaukee first baseman Jesus Aguilar and was called a “dirty player” by NL MVP Christian Yelich.
Of course, the reason the Yankees have always been interested in the 26-year-old is the fact he is one of the top players in the game and they need a replacement for Didi Gregorius at shortstop, who is out for at least a significant part of 2019 following Tommy John surgery to his right (throwing) elbow following the season.
Machado is slated to visit the Phillies on Thursday.
