I've already advised MOHICAN HEIGHTS each-way at a big price in the St Leger itself.
I won't be deserting him now and I still think he holds a decent chance at double-figure odds.
He was a staying on third behind Pyledriver in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot before a no-show in the Derby.
But he is bred to relish the step up to 1m6f and I think he is a cracking punt.
In the opener at Donny, MATTHEW FLINDERS (1.15 Doncaster) is a confident selection.
He has a ridiculous amount of ability, but he has been a bit too keen for his own good the last twice, though you can forgive his second at York as 1m2.5f stretches him.
He again raced freely in a hot race at Sandown last time and he was trapped wide throughout without much cover.
Ed Walker's charge still came there absolutely swinging along approaching the final furlong, but he just ran out a gas on the stiff climb for home.
He broke his maiden at Doncaster and the switch back to this flat track, particularly with the ground drying out, is a big plus for him.
There is a big field so he should be able to get plenty of cover, and there is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that he has the potential to be a stakes horse.
Saturday selections and latest odds
1.15 Doncaster – Matthew Flinders 2pts win @ 7-2
3.35 Doncaster – Mohican Heights 1pt EW @ 25-1 (already advised)
4.45 Leopardstown – Lancaster House 2pts win @ 4-1
- August P&L: +1pt
- Latest September P&L: +7pts
Leopardstown hosts a mouthwatering card today as Irish Champions Weekend gets underway, and I reckon LANCASTER HOUSE (4.45 Leopardstown) has a big chance in the Boomerang Mile.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained four-year-old has only been sighted twice this season, winning nicely first time out at the Curragh before a good second behind the classy Romanised.
Both of those runs came over 7f, but he will be suited by the return to a mile and the drying ground is a big tick for the son of Galileo.
Chief market rivals Safe Voyage and Century Dream have question marks hanging over them – the former is better over 7f and has yet to win over this trip, while the latter needs soft ground to be at his most effective.
The Ballydoyle colt has only had six career starts and retains plenty of upside, so this looks like a good opportunity from his low draw.
