A brand new Avengers: Endgame trailer dropped today and inspired new theories while giving credence to older ones. Tickets have also gone on sale today and major cinema chains’ websites are down from the influx of traffic. As fans refresh the websites of their chosen cinema of choice, they can read up on the newest and, perhaps, most likely fan theory…
The new trailer gave fans their first look at Thanos in a post-snap universe.
The one-minute teaser also was the most coherent of the trailers so far.
Everyone left alive is assembled to defeat Thanos, who arrives on the scene in a blaze of blue-Tesseract energy.
But what’s most important is Thanos’ armour – the fact that he’s wearing any at all.
AVENGERS ENDGAME: WHY NICK FURY WAITED SO LONG TO CALL CAPTAIN MARVEL
In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos didn’t bother with the armour.
Now that he’s donned some battle protection, he may be more vulnerable to whatever the Avengers have planned to defeat him.
A widely held theory claims the movie will deal with Thanos early on and spend the rest of the film working on reversing the snap.
Preview footage was shown at a Disney shareholder meeting and reportedly revealed a scene in which the Avengers discussed how to find Thanos, and the trailer shows they’ve accomplished that goal.
CAPTAIN MARVEL: WAS STAN LEE IN CAPTAIN MARVEL? WHERE DOES HE APPEAR?
A Marvel Cinematic Multiverse
A prevailing theory bandied about Reddit detailed the potential for a multiverse.
This was bolstered by the Disney acquisition of Fox, and assets such as Deadpool and the X-Men.
But the trailer for Endgame lent some credence to the theory which had so far been only wild speculation.
The multiverse theory is bolstered in part by something as simple as Black Widow’s hair.
During the first few scenes of the new Avengers Endgame new trailer, her hair is red with blonde edges.
MARVEL MOVIE CAMEOS: WILL STAN LEE CAMEO IN OTHER MARVEL MOVIES?
However, in the scene in which the whole team are on their ship, the Benatar, her hair is wholly blonde.
This look is the same as her style in Avengers: Infinity War.
This had lead some to believe the two events could take place in a multiverse.
Perhaps the Avengers will have to fight Thanos in both, or all, of the universes the Snap created.
Or the blonde hair could hint at the time travel already rumoured to be the Avengers’ saving grace.
Only time will tell.
Avengers: Endgame is out in UK cinemas on Thursday, April 25, 2019.
