Casualty confirms paramedic Iain Dean's return

Casualty has confirmed the return of one of its most beloved characters – Paramedic Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson).

In a special festive video uploaded by the Casualty twitter account yesterday (December 17) hinting at ‘a *BIG* surprise’ within the video, it saw George Rainsford who plays Dr Ethan Hardy in the show, wander around the empty ED set, reminiscing on past years of the cast getting together for Christmas videos.

As George walks back out of the hospital, he bumps into none other than Michael Stevenson, carrying a huge Christmas cracker on a stretcher (why not!).

George wonders what Mike is doing back on the Casualty set as his character left the show back in September 2019, but when Mike replied, ‘we’re all back’, the two of them went into the ED and were greeted with the cast and crew in their best festive outfits.

Viewers watched Iain Dean face a battle with his mental health when he was last on the show, being the centre of a powerful arc as he struggled with his PTSD and depression following the death of a patient, and colleague Sam Nicholls (Charlotte Salt).

After Iain’s journey, he left the ED to pursue a new career, with viewers unaware on when or if he would ever return.

We’ve been missing Casualty over the past four months, but on January 2 at 7:35pm, the show will finally return as they focus on how the Emergency Department handles the coronavirus pandemic.

After a difficult year, the announcement that Iain Dean will be returning has already made 2021 that much brighter, hasn’t it?
