Ellen DeGeneres Grills John Cena on 'Weird' Hair and Captain America

People began to speculate that Cena was in line for the role after the WWE star posted a picture of Captain America’s shield on Instagram last month.

A conversation about John Cena’s "weird" new haircut on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Monday veered into another hot topic: Is he the next Captain America?!

"It’s weird to see you with hair," Ellen told her guest, who recently changed up his style to a longer cut.
The WWE star and actor had a good sense of humor about her focusing on his hair for about half of the interview, explaining he’s simply "embracing the uncomfortable for once."

But towards the end of the 5-minute video below, she brought up a career rumor that, if true, could explain why he decided to grow his hair out after decades of sporting a buzz cut in the ring and in movies like "The Marine."

"They say that there’s a rumor going around that you might be the Captain America," Ellen said.

"For real?!" Cena exclaimed. "Yes. Finally. It’s happened!"

"Because of the hair," Ellen joked.

The Marvel role is up for grabs as the current Captain, Chris Evans, has said he’s done with the role after the fourth "Avengers" movie, which hits theaters next year.

When Cena asked his host who started the rumor, she replied, "I did, just now."

"I don’t know if you’ve heard, [but] you got some pull on the streets." Cena said. "So if you started this rumor, this could actually be happening so thank you so much!"

But it wasn’t Ellen who started the rumor. If you follow Cena on Instagram, you probably remember him posting an image of the Captain America shield about a month ago.

"Yeah, I might of started it, I don’t know," Cena confessed. "Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t, but if it’s out there, if the Captain America people are listening and you’re out there watching right now. I’ll totally do it. I totally will. I think I’ll be a good Captain America!"

He’s certainly got the hair, the body and the action chops for it, so it’s not that far-fetched of an idea — especially if Marvel wants to develop a TV series for its streaming platform hitting the market soon. Let us know in the comment section below if you want Cena to become the next Captain America.
