Johnny Depp has led the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as Captain Jack Sparrow across five movies to date. But now a spin-off starring Margot Robbie is setting sail without out him. The Oscar-nominated star’s swashbuckling adventure will be penned by Birds of Preys’ screenwriter Christina Hodson.

And now Robbie has broken her silence to tease what fans can expect of her Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off.

In a recent interview, the 30-year-old was asked what she was planning on bringing to the franchise.

The actress replied, “A lot of girl power!”, before admitting that there wasn’t too much she could say about the spin-off just yet.

She added: “No, it’s too early to talk about it… I love Christina, obviously.”

Speaking with Collider, Robbie continued: “I’m not a producer on Pirates, so I’ll sit back and kind of wait for the process…

“No, we’re really, really excited at the prospect of adding obviously a very key female element to that world.”

Of course, Robbie’s spin-off is separate to a planned Pirates of the Caribbean 6, however, whether or not Depp’s Sparrow has a role in either really isn’t clear.

Nevertheless, We Got This Covered reported earlier this month that Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer allegedly wants to bring Johnny Depp back in some capacity.

The outlet’s Disney sources claim that Jerry has been in direct contact with the Jack Sparrow star “in an attempt to work something out over a return to Pirates of the Caribbean. Even if it’s just in a cameo capacity.”

Jerry recently featured on the Literally! with Rob Lowe podcast, where he revealed how Depp based Jack Sparrow on both a Looney Tunes cartoon character and The Rolling Stones guitarist.

Jerry admitted: “He’s a very inventive actor. He had a young daughter at the time and he was watching a lot of cartoons and fell in love with Pepé Le Pew.

While on how The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards helped inspire Captain Jack, the producer said: “Keith was a buddy of his and he used to come over all the time.”

It turns out that the rock star was rather taken by Depp’s clothing.

Jerry added: “[Keith would] go into Johnny’s closet and try on his jackets and then he’d leave wearing Johnny’s jacket!”

While on basing Captain Jack on The Rolling Stones guitarist, the producer said: “He based it on how he walked and how he talked.”

Of course, Pirates fans will know that Richards ended up playing Captain Jack’s father in the third and fourth Pirates movies, At World’s End and On Stranger Tides.

His character was called Captain Edward Teague, the former pirate lord of Madagascar who became the keeper of the Pirate Code.

Meanwhile, The Beatles’ Sir Paul McCartney played Captain Jack’s Uncle Jack in the fifth Pirates movie, Salazar’s Revenge aka Dead Men Tell No Tales.

He appeared locked in a cell singing Maggie May while playing poker.

Margot Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off has a TBC release date.
