After an emotional reconciliation on The Real Housewives of Orange County, it appeared there could be a glimmer of hope for Vicki Gunvalson and Kelly Dodd to rekindle their friendship.
Even though Dodd’s social media and interviews don’t point to reconciliation, maybe there is hope she and Gunvalson could eventually find their way back to each other. Gunvalson has been at odds with close friends Tamra Judge and Shannon Beador in the past. In fact, Beador was so upset about the falling out, it took years before she could consider Gunvalson a friend.
So could Dodd and Gunvalson travel a similar path? Perhaps Dodd needs some time and distance in order to regain her friendship footing? While she reunited with Judge and Beador, Emily Simpson thinks that ship has sailed forever.
She thinks the friendship is over forever
When Simpson appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen an After Show caller wanted her thoughts. The caller not only wanted to know if she thought the women could repair their friendship but also why Gunvalson kept spreading rumors about Dodd.
But Simpson quickly answered, “Oh that’s never gonna happen.” She doubled down on her answer when Cohen still wondered if there was a possibility. She believes the two kept hurling low blows to “one-up” one another.
The drama keeps going in circles. So why can’t they stop? “I think Kelly hurt Vicki a lot with the whole pig thing,” she says. “And I think Vicki wants to hurt Kelly back.”
What are they even fighting about?
Dodd and Gunvalson were tight friends, especially when Gunvalson’s friendships with Judge and Beador were in the dumps. However, a huge crack wedged into the relationship following Dodd’s divorce.
Gunvalson arranged a double date between Dodd’s ex-husband Michael and someone she knew. She didn’t tell Dodd ahead of time so Dodd found out from the rumor mill. While Dodd was clearly hurt and expressed she was hurt, Gunvalson brushed it off saying Dodd kept saying how she wanted her ex to find someone to date.
This early issue created a negative undercurrent for the rest of the season as Dodd grew visibly more and more upset and uncomfortable with the setup. Finally, the entire relationship erupted when Gunvalson implied that Dodd did cocaine during the season 13 reunion.
And the fighting grew from there
During season 14 filming, Dodd snarked on social media about Gunvalson’s demoted status. The more Dodd taunted Gunvalson, the more Gunvalson implied she “heard” other rumors about Dodd to the rest of the cast.
But Gunvalson recently told The Daily Dish podcast that it was Dodd who has changed since becoming a cast member. “I have no desire to be around people that want to hurt me. Zero,” she said. “If she wants to hurt me and call me names, call me a pig and all these terrible things — I’ve never called her names. I’ve never said she looks like x, y, z. I don’t do that. And I don’t deserve it. I’m not going to tolerate it. So while she’s on the show, we have to all hang out together, but she’s not somebody I’m going to seek out in my life at this time in my life.”
Gunvalson thinks Dodd changed because causing drama on the show keeps your storyline alive longer. “For some reason, these women think fighting is going to keep you on longer,” she insists. “If that’s what you want to do to stay on the show, then I’m out. I want to emulate what a businesswoman can do and what you can do after a bad relationship and how you can pull through and continue to grow a business and continue to do your best, look your best. That’s inspiring.”
