Coronation Street fans are finding it a desperately uncomfortable watch – which is the intention of the storyline – but Geoff Metcalfe’s (Ian Bartholomew) coercive abuse of Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) could be about to be exposed as suspicious Alya (Sair Khan) demands answers.
She has already had her eyebrows raised about Geoff’s odd behaviour as his mask momentarily slips on occasion, as much as he tries to play the part of an amiable husband to Yasmeen.
And when Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) overhears Yasmeen crying in her back garden, she alerted a worried Alya, who is determined to find out what is going on. At Speed Daal, Alya asks Geoff why her gran was so upset but he brushes her off dismissively, avoiding the topic.
Alya insists to Yasmeen that they go for a walk on the Red Rec. Alya explains to her that it’s clear something is wrong and as Yasmeen struggles with her emotions, will she come clean about what she is going through at the hands of bully Geoff? Or will she cover for him?
Meanwhile, Geoff is worried that he has pushed Yasmeen too far and he darts home, relieved to find her passport still there. When Yasmeen gets back, he hugs her tightly and tells her he was so worried she had left him – and he could never cope with that.
Alya is still not deterred but her focus is steered by the negative online reviews the restaurant is getting which appear to be aimed at her. She assumes that Ray Crosby (Mark Frost) is behind it to try and sabotage a rival business but when Alya makes it clear to Geoff she is going to do some digging and discover the origin of the comments, he panics.
Is Alya about to discover Geoff’s role in it – and will this lead her to unmask his true colours and realise the nightmare that Yasmeen is living?
One to watch: Monday 2 March at 7:30pm on ITV.
