Tess Daly, 51, has been voicing her support for Vernon, 46, quite publicly since he entered the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! castle a few weeks ago. The pair have been married since 2004 and have two daughters together; Phoebe and Amber. Talking with his fellow campmates on the ITV reality show, the television presenter recalled a time his wife wasn’t too impressed with him when the shared a dinner with Tony Blair, 67.

The moment came as the remaining contestants commented on the full moon they could see from within the castle grounds.

Discussing how the same lunar activity took place on the night he was invited to Chequers with Mr Blair, Vernon told his campmates about the embarrassment he caused for his wife.

It was a formal event, with the Strictly Come Dancing star and her husband joined by the former Prime Minister, his wife Cherie Blair, 67, and Lord and Lady Sainsbury.

Recalling a conversation he had with the politician about the full depth of the moon, the father-of-two explained: “I didn’t even look, I just went, ‘Yeah Tony, I know, I know.’”

He then made a wolf noise in the presence of the former Prime Minister, which led his other half to sharply dig into his arm.

Vernon soon realised his wife’s fury over him making animal noises in front of their bespoke company, but the politician and his spouse didn’t seem too phased.

The campmate explained how Mrs Blair then showed him around Chequers, adding how interesting it was to see the historic paintings and gifts from other countries.

A sword used by Oliver Cromwell also featured in the story, with Tess’ husband recalling how Tony made light-relief of the moment.

Mr Blair apparently joked how he knew how to use such a weapon because Hollywood actor and Star Wars star Samuel L Jackson, 71, had previously taught him how to use a lightsaber.

Despite his behaviour, Tess’ husband admitted it was an honour to be invited to Chequers and he had a great night with his wife.

Taking to the Telegraph, Vernon added: “You just think, big decisions have been made in these rooms and then Tess Daly from Strictly Come Dancing and Vernon Kay from Family Fortunes walk in.”

Former Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard, 63, took to the Telegraph after hearing Vernon’s story and said: “You just don’t expect that in Chequers, do you? I want to go.”

The BBC dance show host has been expressing her support for her husband on her social media channels and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans.

With Tess sharing clips of her husband in the camp in view of her 628,000 followers, fans are keen for him to go all the way.

One viewer replied: “Vernon to win. Such a lovely man,” with a second adding: “Vernon is just the best!”

Whilst a third commented: “Vernon is real gent,” with a fourth remarking: “We need Vernon back on the television more.”

“What a lucky lady you are to have such a beautiful husband inside and out,” a fifth fan told the Strictly host.

According to the latest odds from Coral bookmakers, Vernon is one of the firm favourites to become champion of this year’s series of the reality competition.

The television presenter stands at 4/1 to become King of the Castle, matching the chances of Giovanna Fletcher, 30, to win the race to the finish line.

Though, they still have some work to put in as BBC Radio 1 star Jordan North, 30, is leading the way following his popularity earlier on in the series.

At 5/4, it seems his fellow campmates are going to have to work hard if they want the viewing public to vote for them.

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! continues weeknights at 9pm on ITV.
