Girl, 3, found wandering streets alone at 3.30am as Cornwall cops arrest woman, 40, for child neglect

A THREE-year-old girl was found wandering the streets alone in the early hours of the morning – with a 40-year-old woman arrested for child neglect.

A child neglect probe has been launched after the alarming discovery at around 3.30am in Newquay, Cornwall.

The child has been taken into care with cops originally unable to locate his parents after finding her home empty.

But they confirmed a woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

Devon and Cornwall Police tweeted about the horror this morning, saying: "One three-year-old child found in the street at 3.30am, parents not at home, child neglect investigation commenced."

The law doesn't specify the age a child can be left on their own but it is an offence to leave a child alone if it places them at risk.

According to the NSPCC, children under 12 are rarely mature enough to be left alone for a long period of time.

And children under 16 shouldn’t be left alone overnight – with babies, toddlers and very young children never be left alone.
