Alan Carr has spoken out after his husband Paul Drayton shared a shocking photo of himself with a black eye on Wednesday night.
Paul, 46, took to Instagram to post a photo of himself with the injury, writing: "We had a bad row," but did not state who he had had a row with.
He soon deleted the upload, with 45 year old Alan quickly releasing a statement to insist he had not been involved in the incident, and that Paul had "fell off the wagon."
Speaking to The Sun, the funnyman said: "While I was away filming on location the past few weeks, Paul fell off the wagon and started drinking again.
"When I arrived back home from Wales, Paul was covered in scratches and bruises from a drinking binge.
"We are now working together to get the help he needs to get better which is our number one priority right now."
According to the publication, Paul's famous friends shared their concern online, with Carol Vorderman said to have commented on the now-deleted post: "We love you Paul," with Tamzin Outhwaite asking: "When was this? Are you OK?"
OK! has been unable to directly contact Paul, but he has since taken to his Instagram account to say: "Thank you to that follower who sent that picture to the newspaper. I'm feeling very fragile at the minute and would like to say that Alan would not and has never hit me. And I'm devastated that he has had to deal with this today."
He went into rehab in 2018 for alcohol problems, while Alan had previously gone teetotal to support his husband, but does enjoy a drink every now and again now.
Speaking on Kelly Hoppen's podcast last year, he said: "It's been tough for Paul during lockdown.
"He's been saying, 'Oh, shall we get a bottle?' and I say, 'No, we're not getting any rosé wine in'.

"He's been so good and I'm so proud of him," the former Chatty Man host said.
"I like eating and drinking, but it was ridiculous before – we were cracking open a bottle of rosé because it was a Monday.
"We were out of control. It was a laugh, but looking at Paul, sometimes the party has to stop."
He continued: "I enjoy a drink and I have it on special occasions now, it's a real treat for me.
"With lockdown and the rise of podcasts it's reawakened my chatting.
"It's made me want to chat more to people, and I'm quite good at it and I like chatting to people."
