Alison Hammond has opened up about her emotional response as she was speaking about her co-star Phillip Schofield’s exit from This Morning in May.
Phillip Schofield parted ways with the daytime TV show after he confessed to having an affair with a younger male colleague during his marriage to wife, Stephanie Lowe.
After Phillips's shocking departure, his colleagues spoke about his exit, with Alison breaking down into tears as she said she found it all “painful”.
Following Phillip’s bombshell interview with the BBC, Alison broke down as she recalled something her late mum, Maria, told her. Alison said “use the bible as your sat nav” and remember “those without sin cast the first stone”.
Months later, Alison has now opened up about her choice of words at the time and discussed her emotions while appearing on Gyles Brandreth’s Rosebud podcast.
Alison was asked about the phrases that she recalled her mother saying, and she said: “Yes, she read the bible all the time and she used to speak it to us as well and use it and if we had any problems she would give us a learning from it. She was very with her bible.”
Alison continued: “‘She used to read her bible every single night and would go to church every week.”
While speaking about Phillip on air, Alison said she was finding it “really painful” and that she was “conflicted”.
Following her recent chat, the 48 year old This Morning presenter was nominated for the Best Presenter award at the NTAs on Tuesday night, however, she ended up losing out to longtime winners, Ant & Dec.
Despite her loss, Alison was remaining positive the day after the awards, as she took to Instagram to share a snap which saw Holly Willoughby taking a selfie with Alison, This Morning doctor Zoe Williams, and others.
Alison captioned the post: "What a night of happiness at the @officialntas with @thismorning , we had the best time. Thanks so much for all your love support and votes and allowing us to be there. I’ll be honest it was so nice watching the whole show with @joeldommett in our seats.
"Sometimes failing can be your biggest success well done to @therepairshoptv and @antanddec, you all totally deserved the Win."
This Morning was dealt a crushing blow after failing to scoop the Best Daytime Show. It breaks This Morning's incredible winning streak which has continued for 12 years running from 2011.
