Coronation Street and Peaky Blinders star heartbroken by ‘best friend’ dog’s death

Coronation Street and Peaky Blinders star Luke Delaney is heartbroken after his lovely dog who he called his “best friend” has sadly passed away.

Luke, who played Dave Fairchild on Coronation Street, took to Instagram to pay tribute to his furry friend.

He shared some sweet snaps including an adorable picture of his dog when he was just a puppy, along with a snap of him looking happy outside and another of him chilling on the sofa.

The actor captioned the snap: “Today our hearts hurt.

“But to not experience grief, means to never have experienced love. And my gorgeous Billy boy, the bestest boy, your love was worth all the grief.”

He finished off by sweetly adding: “Sleep well big boy”.

Fans and friends rushed to the comments to send their condolences and messages of support. One fan wrote: “I know how much you love your dogs. Thinking of you”, while another said: “So sorry for your loss my friend. X.”

A third added: “So sorry to hear this. We're truly lucky to have dogs in our lives”, while another penned: “I’m sorry for your loss buddy! It truly is painful to loose a loyal pal.”

The actor first appeared on Coronation Street in 2022 and appeared in 15 episodes before leaving the show in 2023. He played a major part in the storyline where Max Turner was radicalised into a far-right extremist group.

Speaking on his role in the soap, he said: “We gelled so well together to bring this extremely sensitive & emotionally challenging story to life. Raising awareness to the very real problem of gangs grooming young, vulnerable teenagers into their radical way of thinking. In this case, the grooming of Max Turner.”

Luke has also played a role in the hit TV show Peaky Blinders along with Hollywood A-lister Cillian Murphy.

Upon leaving his role in Coronation Street, the actor said on his Instagram: “It’s been a crazy 6 months since joining the cast back in August last year, and i’m extremely grateful to have worked with a team of insanely talented people at @ITV Studios to bring this storyline to screen.”

He continued: “I’ve said it before but the support I’ve received both inside and outside of the show really has been overwhelming so thank you, Onto the next.”

The actor, who has also taken part in bodybuilding competitions, recently revealed that he has landed a new movie role along with former Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote.

The Sun reported that the duo were spotted filming in Manchester together earlier this year.
