Coronation Street’s Jennie McAlpine makes rare public appearance months after soap exit

Coronation Street's Jennie McAlpine, who played the iconic Fiz Stape in the soap, made a rare public appearance months after her exit after playing the role for 22 years.

The star was spotted outside Manchester's Palace Theatre for the opening night of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The actress looked cool and casual as she grinned from ear to ear for a sweet snap.

Jennie opted for a black and orange floral dress paired with a denim jacket and accessorised with a pink satchel bag. Her iconic curly hair was tied back with a few strands falling down around her face as she proudly held the programme for the musical in her arms.

The public outing follows after she left the Corrie cobbles in May, when her character was offered a huge career change. Fiz Stape, who finally wed Tyrone Dobbs (played by Alan Halsall) in December, left after being offered a new job in Norwich.

The seamstress had been a long-term employee of Underworld, with Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) hailing her as one of his most trusted employees. As a result of this, secret serial killer Stephen offered a Norwich-based promotion to Fiz, telling the Corrie veteran that she’d be earning twice as much as she was doing as her current role as a machinist. Doting husband Tyrone urged Fiz to take the promotion.

Jennie shocked soap viewers when she revealed in an exclusive interview with OK! back in December that she was six months pregnant. Speaking to us at the time, Jennie said she and her husband Chris Farr had decided not to find out the gender of their baby.

“Girl, boy – it’s not relevant! I’ve got two little humans who are very different from each other but I’m not sure they’re different because they’re a girl and a boy,” she told us.

At the time, pregnant Jennie said: "That programme, 22 Kids And Counting – I totally get it! I love being pregnant, I love babies and I love being a mum to the kids and each stage. It feels right and being a mum is my favourite job in the world.”

Jennie, who has been married to Chris since 2017, already has two children – Albert, eight, and four year old Hilda. It’s thought Jennie's due date was in April, but there’s been no news of the birth of her bundle of joy just yet.
