Dan Walker, 44, revealed his ideal job if he were to leave BBC Breakfast and it’s not something people might think he’d go for. The TV star explained he would love to work on a cookery program such as Saturday Kitchen, describing working with food everyday as the greatest job in the world. The admission comes as he featured on The Pirate Ship Podcast with Tom Kerridge and Chris Stark.

The trio were discussing how to barbecue properly, where chef Tom talked about the social aspect of cooking outdoors.

Dan revealed he watches a lot of cookery programmes in order to learn new techniques and ways of making food.

“I think it’s a really good way of making it yourself,” he said: “And seeing what it actually tastes like.

“My ideal job would be to work on a cookery programme, I’d love to be on Saturday Kitchen where you get to eat the stuff at the end,” he chuckled, having debuted his own versions of barbecued brisket and more on his social media accounts.

“I think it’d be the greatest job in the world!”

Tom and Chris liked the sound of that, as the latter beamed: “Dan Walker is arguably the best presenter on BBC after Attenborough.

“Let’s bin off the day job Dan – let’s all get rid of our jobs and let’s just BBQ together everyday!”

There was a slight pause before Dan blurted out: “No!”

The studio burst out laughing as Tom added: “Dan looked at the economics at that and thought, ‘Err, no that doesn’t sit perfectly for me.'”

But the boys were right, Dan has become a firm fan-favourite with BBC viewers who would be gutted if he decided to leave Breakfast.

It comes after he announced his departure from Football Focus last month, and his co-host Louise Minchin confirmed she would also be leaving the red sofa in autumn.

But Dan isn’t going anywhere.

Not yet anyway.

And having joined the programme in 2016, the presenter is used to the show and the early rises.

On Friday, he offered some friendly words of advice to Martin Lewis, who has been standing in as guest host alongside Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain this week.

“Martin had penned on Twitter ahead of his appointment: “Have a lovely weekend. I’m signing off now, as always, for some family time.

“I’ll see you (if you watch) bright and early on @GMB on Monday morning – sandwiched between @susannareid100 and @CharlotteHawkns.

“Can’t wait (well a bit nervous if honest).”

The BBC Breakfast star responded and wished Martin luck with his exciting new role on rival channel ITV.

He responded: “I’m sure you’ll be great Martin. Welcome to the wide-awake club.”

The 49-year-old couldn’t help but confide in Dan about his concerns on managing to get in some well-deserved shut-eye.

Martin shared: “Very kind of you Dan. Don’t know how you do this every day.

“Three days guest presenting already has me petrified of not enough sleep!”
