Legendary country music star Dolly Parton updated the lyrics to her classic hit “Jolene” after receiving her first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday, March 2.
Parton announced on Twitter that she got “a dose of her own medicine.” In April, Parton donated $1 million to coronavirus research at Vanderbilt University, which helped fund Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.
“I even changed one of my songs to fit the occasion. It goes, ‘Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine! I’m begging of you please don’t hesitate. Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine! ‘Cause once you’re dead, that’s a bit too late,'” she sang, updating the lyrics to the tune of her 1974 classic “Jolene.”
“I just wanted to encourage everybody ’cause the sooner we get to feeling better, the sooner we are going to get back to being normal,” she added. “So I just want to say to all of you cowards out there, don’t be such a chicken squat! Get out there and get your shot.”
