The Chase star Anne Hegerty, 62, has returned to the country for the first time in over a year, following a delay due to coronavirus. Earlier this week, she confirmed she was in quarantine, in line with Government and travel rules.

Anne’s trip sparked a mixed reaction from many Twitter users after she appeared on Good Morning Britain this week.

One commented: “How wonderful for Anne, that she is able to freely come to Australia.

“I wish my parents were allowed to do the same, it’s hard for my three year old to have a relationship with his grandparents through the screen of an iPad. #doublestandards.”

The Governess star clashed with a social media user over the quarantine rules.

In a further tweet, she hit back at the criticism from, who she branded “numpties”.

In view of her 151,000 followers, she commented: “Just so you all know – anyone giving me a hard time about having a visa to work in Australia is being muted. Complain to the government if you like, but don’t guilt-trip me about it.”

Many of her fans flocked to her post to share their support for the star.

“Good Luck @anne_hegertyand hope you’ve remembered ya sunblock x,” one commented.

Another recommended a popular candy store for Anne to visit during her trip.

A third added: “Can I give you a hard time for not arranging a visit to Nz since the travel bubble is open and you know how popular you are here?”

Anne replied: “I would love to, but I don’t know if there’ll be time!”

The quizzer is allowed to be in the country for work with the Government’s permission.

She has been a part of the chasers on the UK version since 2010.

Five years later, she joined the Australian version of the show, alongside Mark Labbett.

Anne is also a quizzer on spin-off show Beat The Chasers, alongside Mark, Jenny Ryan, Shaun Wallace and Darragh Ennis.

As well as this, she fronts her own ITV show Britain’s Brightest Family.

While she has a busy schedule, Anne said she’d never let any other work get in the way of The Chase.

In a recent interview with Express.co.uk and other press, she said: “[The Chase] is the big one, it’s the one that everything else comes out from.

“I always tell my agents that [The Chase] is the one that must not be sacrificed for anything else.

“The daytime Chase comes first. Everything else has got to make way for that.”

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV. Beat The Chasers continues tonight at 9pm.
