The former This Morning host, 64, said of the end of her 20-year marriage in January last year: “I am in a transition period. My approach has always been, head down, keep going, and for the first time I’m thinking, ‘Hang on, where shall I go now?’ And that’s quite nice.”
The split came weeks after her dad, actor Tony Britton, died. Her mum died two years previously.
Mum-of-four Fern told Good Housekeeping magazine: “I lost my home in Buckinghamshire, too, because Phil lives there now and I’m in Cornwall. But the magic here is incredible. I’ve made some wonderful girlfriends and that’s been a lovely surprise.”
This month Fern has been on Channel Five’s Fishing Scotland’s Lochs and Rivers. She is also writing a novel after publishing nine.
She said: “Yes, I’ve made mistakes. But actually, I’m all right. I’m not too bad.
“Suddenly, the world is my oyster.”
The full interview is in September’s Good Housekeeping, on sale today.
