GBBO’s Laura Adlington proudly wears bikini for first time ever: ‘I feel at peace’

Great British Bake Off 2020 finalist Laura Adlington has shared a stunning snap of herself wearing a bikini while on holiday in Mexico.

Laura, 32, confessed that it was the first time she has ever worn a bikini as she posted the photo of herself in the leopard print . Alongside the snap she said: “Today I wore a bikini on the beach for the first time ever.

“And, for the first time in my entire life, I can honestly say I feel at peace with my body, instead of at war with it.”

She continued: “It’s not a perfect body but it’s mine, and I want to feel the sun on it.”

Laura had previously shared that she was nervous of wearing the swimming gear. She confided in her 205k followers: “I’m feeling a bit nervous today about being in a swimming costume around the pool, but I’m trying to remind myself that holidays are a privilege, and that I deserve to be here and take up space."

She continued: “I’ve even packed a couple of bikinis!! I’ve told myself it doesn’t matter if I wear them. But I’m hoping I can build up the courage to as I have never worn one in all my 32 years.”

Last year Laura revealed the extent to which she had been subjected to vile trolling and abuse about her body. She explained that she had been left "heartbroken" by the messages she’d received and shared the nasty comments for others to read.

Laura told her followers: “This vile message broke me yesterday. It was so personal, especially the baby comment, and I felt absolutely heartbroken somebody could be so cruel.

“It made me want to delete my account and hide away. But then I remembered the 99.9% of messages I get from you which are supportive and kind.

“Thank you to those of you who do message, who like and comment and are supportive. It really does mean so much.

“I like helping people and I know how hard it is to feel comfortable in a plus size body and find nice clothes.

“That's why I share what I do. Thanks to those of you that get it.”

She concluded: "And don't worry, I'm not going to let some d**khead who doesn't know the difference between 'your' and 'you're' get me down."

Laura previously opened up to her fans when she was fat shamed on a train. She confessed: "I fell over in a crowded spot in London, which was really humiliating, and then I sat next to a woman on a train who thought it was ok to fat shame me…despite the fact I was perched on half of my seat the entire journey and in no way encroached on her space."

Since competing in the finals of GBBO Laura has become an advocate for body positivity and plus size fashion, as well as continuing baking.
