Charlotte Hawkins opens up about her rescue dog passing away
Charlotte Hawkins, who has been a recognisable face on Good Morning Britain since 2014, has opened up about the death of her “irreplaceable” rescue dog Bailey.
The 48-year-old ITV presenter was reduced to tears in August as she spoke about her grief following the loss of her 16-year-old pet.
Charlotte, who is a huge advocate for the Dogs Trust, and her husband Mark Herbert rehomed the rescue dog when she was only four months old.
Speaking about the pup’s devastating death, the former Strictly star told OK! Magazine: “We knew we only had a matter of time with Bailey but the physical pain I felt when we lost her still took me by surprise.
“She was a really important member of our family and such a beautiful, special dog.”

The journalist went on to lament “not hearing her paws on the tiles and thinking, ‘oh I have to feed the dog’, and remembering she’s not there”.
She continued: “At the moment it feels like she’s irreplaceable, but I’m a massive dog lover and I know we’ll have another pet at some point, we just have to work out as a family when it’s the right time.
“Ella is currently campaigning for a cat, but Mark doesn’t like them so I think she’s going to have a bit of a battle on her hands!.”

Charlotte shares a seven-year-old daughter named Ella Rose with her husband Mark, whom she married in 2008.
Her heartfelt admission about her family’s loss comes after co-host Adil Ray went off script earlier this summer to ask about Bailey’s sad death.
“I have to say, by the way, condolences to you, you recently lost your dog, Bailey,” he said at the time.
As a picture of her hugging Bailey appeared on screen, Charlotte got overwhelmed: “It’s very sad, I’m getting upset now, sorry.”
Explaining that the picture of the adorable pooch was from the last day they shared together, Charlotte took a moment to compose herself as Adil rubbed her shoulder to comfort her.
“Are you OK?” Adil asked to which a tearful Charlotte replied: “I didn’t expect that, that’s the thing, it’s hit me really hard actually. Thank you to everybody who sent me a message because I have not been able to talk about it and I’ve had so much support from people.
“I think for anyone who has lost a pet, you know how much they mean to you,” she added. “She was with us for 16 years, a beautiful, gorgeous rescue dog who we loved very dearly.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
