Cricketer Phil Tufnell, 56, has been rumoured to be among the cast of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here All Stars, almost 20 years after he was originally crowned King of the Jungle. He won the second series of the ITV show, beating the likes of John Fashanu and Linda Barker.

In September, the former Question of Sport team captain was reportedly pictured at the airport along with the other celebrities flying to South Africa, according to The Sun.

The other rumoured campmates include Joe Swash, Andy Whyment, Shaun Ryder and Georgia Toffolo.

However, the official line-up has not yet been confirmed.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Phil broke his silence on the rumours.

He laughed: “Oh, well, I can neither confirm nor deny!”

The spin bowler also shared his thoughts on the latest series which saw Lioness Jill Scott join him in the list of jungle royalty.

Phil said: “I watched bits and pieces of the latest series and it is one of my favourite shows.

“Obviously Mike Tindall was in it, I know Mike, so it was interesting seeing how he coped. Jill won it didn’t she, she seemed a worthy winner.

“It is one of my favourite things, I don’t know why we like seeing people with snakes shoved around them or dropped into buckets of gunge, it’s quite a weird thing isn’t it.

“But I like seeing how they all interact and everything and how little stories build.”

It comes after presenters Ant and Dec confirmed the new series will be even more “brutal” than the original.

Appearing on Lorraine on Friday, Dec said: “It’s kind of an all-stars, taking some of your favourite campmates from the last 20 years and taking them for a brand-new challenge in South Africa.

“So, it’s a completely different landscape and they’re doing it again. They’re competing to become the first ever I’m A Celebrity Legend of the Savanna…it’s very special.”

Ant added: “It’s slightly different to the show we do in Australia because they go head-to-head in trials and whoever loses leaves.

“It’s quite brutal, so that’s how we decided the winner.”

Dec then confirmed that the whole series has already been filmed and it is “really, really good”.

The series will hit TV screens later this year. An exact release date has not yet been confirmed.

Also this year, Phil is reuniting with his long-time friends Sue Barker and Matt Dawson for their Extra Time theatre show.

The live sports quiz will travel the country promising a new format of testing questions, lively audience interaction, games, hilarity and a cast of famous guests.

As it was with their previous outings, Sue will be at the helm with Matt and Phil as team captains.
