The Absolutely Fabulous actress, who turns 54 today, has been embroiled in a feud with her older sister, Nadia, for years. Their sisterly row came to a head in 2019 when the duo publicly slammed each other across ITV’s Loose Women and social media.
The celebrity sisters took their feud public as Nadia made a revelation about her childhood on the panel show.
The actress said: “My mum got pregnant with Julia and I was so excited as there are four years between Julia and I, and my mum then had her and freaked out so sent me away to my grandmother’s.
“I think because of that, my younger sister and I have always had a really stormy relationship.”
Julia was evidently not pleased with this proclamation, and slammed her sister on Twitter saying: “So tired of #nadiasawalha talking about our ‘stormy’ relationship which she created.
“I’ve kept my privacy for six years to protect my family, whilst she talks lies & rubbish.
“You have destroyed our family so don’t sit on TV with your fake tears to gain sympathy & attention.”
In the comments’ section, Julia also noted: “I’m not actually fighting, she is, but paints a very different picture publicly and I’ve had enough.
“Just watching six years of her lies finally got to me, which of course is just what she wants, more attention. Thank you for your understanding.”
A few weeks later, back on the talk show Nadia weighed in on toxic families on Loose Women as they discussed Meghan Markle’s relationship with her father Thomas.
At the time, it had just been revealed that Meghan was not allowing Thomas to see his grandson Archie.
Nadia noted that not allowing a grandparent to see their grandchild is “awful and cruel and wrong” but quickly made a personal note, subtly indicating her own family troubles.
She commented: “You can think of another situation where maybe someone in your family has been toxic. She’s probably feeling very vulnerable and probably doesn’t want the child to get to know him.”
Nadia had spoken about her sister on the show before, sharing: “She is totally amazing. She’s really amazing, my younger sister but we’ve always had a really volatile relationship.”
The ex-EastEnders actress admitted that there were long periods of time where the sisters just didn’t speak to each other, and added: “I always say I have the best time or the worst time of my life with her.
“It’s the same with both my sisters.”
In the wake of the public outbursts, Nadia’s feud with her older sister Dina resurfaced, as well as her previous claims about her sibling squabbles.
The MailOnline reported in 2019 that Nadia and Dina were on good terms, living as next-door neighbours, while Nadia and Julia were out of sorts.
Nadia had previously blamed the fallouts with her sisters on “men”, explaining the extent she went to to protect her sisters on Loose Women.
The actress admitted she had once paid one of Dina’s boyfriends to “leave the country” as she thought he was “no good for her”.
The evidently protective sister added she “was a lot more interfering back then”.
The boyfriend did leave according to Nadia, and Dina was thankful for her sister’s interference in the end.
When Julia started dating comedian Alan Davies, Nadia was not a big supporter and the sisters stopped talking to each other entirely.
However, when Julia split from Alan, the sisters became very close according to the MailOnline.
Nadia told the Mirror that even when they were on good terms, and despite being in the same industry they are “not showbizzy sisters”.
