Kate Garraway has shared the sweet card husband Derek gave her for their anniversary.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 54, appeared as the special guest on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, where she spoke about husband Derek Draper and their family.
Viewers were moved to tears by the emotional conversation, which saw Kate speak about how she has been acting as a carer for Derek as he continues to suffer from complications of Covid-19, after contracting the virus last year.
Kate and Derek, who married in 2005, are parents to Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11, and their children were present in the audience for the filming of the show.
Looking to the audience, Piers asked: “Let me start with you Billy, how proud are you of your mum?”
“I feel very proud. I feel very proud of her,” Billy replied.
“Those two are incredible,” Kate said, “and they’re both incredible with their dad.”
Kate then began to tell the story of how their two children took their dad to the shop to pick out a card for the couple’s anniversary, before Piers reveals he actually has the card with him.
“We’re lucky we can get him into a wheelchair and they went out to a little shop that’s close to us in the petrol station to choose a card for our anniversary…” Kate began.
“We have it here,” Piers replies, pulling out the card. “It just says ‘so proud of you’”.
The presenter then opens the card to reveal that Derek had simply wrote: “very proud, love Derek x”.
Elsewhere in the chat, Kate opened up on the "terrible state" her husband is in after dealing with the impact of coronavirus.
The TV personality has been nursing her husband back to health after he was struck by Covid-19 in April 2020, which resulted in many complications requiring 24 hour care from nurses at the family’s home in London.
Kate also spoke on what exactly Covid-19 did to her husband as she said: "It's devastated him. From the top of his head to the tip of his toe.
"His digestive system, his liver, his kidneys, his heart, his nervous system. We're pretty sure that the inflammation did pass through the brain.
"He still can't communicate, he still has issues with mobility. Fundamentally, he's in a terrible state. Look, he's alive, Piers."
She continued: "It does feel as though I walked through a fiery furnace or fell down a rabbit hole.
"The world went dark and still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, really."
Viewers took to social media to share how the emotional interview had moved them, with one writing: “ "I shed many tears. I think you are a class act and super strong. Truly inspirational."
Another added: "You are incredibly inspiration. Such a warm woman with iron strength and a HUGE heart."
