Katherine Ryan has revealed the unexpected reason why she had a beer in the Lindo Wing after giving birth to her newborn baby son Frederick last month.

The 38 year old comedian was hilarious as ever in a new Instagram video explaining what happened, as she joked she wouldn’t be winning a “mother of the year award” anytime soon.

To mark her birthday this week, Katherine's husband Bobby Kootstra posted a fabulous picture of the beautiful blonde enjoying a bottle of beer and what appeared to be Mexican food at the prestigious Lindo Wing, where celebs and royals alike have given birth over the years.

Katherine was still wearing her hospital gown as she cuddled her adorable tot on her lap.

Deciding she needed to explain the image, the funny Irish Canadian spoke to her fans directly on Instagram.

“In my defence, I wanted champagne and afternoon tea,” she admitted. “A nice dinner at the Lindo Wing, but the kitchen was closed because apparently no one has a baby Sunday night.

“So I got beer on Deliveroo,” Katherine continued. “And I’m sorry if that makes anyone cross.

“But I tried to do it the posh way. And God said ‘no’."

Referencing her newborn's speedy birth, she added: "I tried to have drugs and God said ‘no’.”

Katherine was in labour for just three hours and when she arrived St Mary’s Hospital, she was told she was too far into the birth to have the epidural she had paid privately for.

Mimicking what she thought was God’s decisions, the comic finished: “’You’re trash Katherine and you’re gonna have both your babies nearly in a car’.”

Later on, Katherine got dressed up for a fancy event.

Opting for a turquoise and blue marbled long-sleeve gown with buttons at the collar, she went for full glam makeup and hair too.

Joking it was son Fred who had created her impeccable contouring, she also showed viewers she was taking him in the car to her mystery destination.

The star has been not afraid to show the realities of new motherhood, as she also filmed herself pumping breast milk in the dressing room as her hubby held Fred on the sofa.
