Louis lends a hand! Kate and William’s youngest gets stuck in as family go back to work

Following a fun-filled night at the King's Coronation concert at Windsor Castle, Prince William and Kate Middleton stepped out with their family on Monday as they volunteered at a local scout hut as part of the Big Help Out.

The Prince and Princess of Wales – along with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – joined volunteers in renovating the Scout Hut, with works including resetting a path, digging a new soakaway, sanding and revarnishing the front door, adding planters to the front of the building and adding a mural to create a lasting legacy of the Big Help Out’s work.

Louis, five, may have missed out on the concert celebrations Sunday evening because it was past his bedtime, but he was on hand to help out today as he got stuck into work.

Wearing a striped t-shirt and jeans, Louis was seen messing about in a digger.

He sat in his father’s lap as William, 40, moved the mechanical arm and grabbed a bucket full of soil before dumping it on a spoil heap, with his siblings George, nine, and Charlotte, eight, watching on.

Later, Louis was given the task of filling a wheelbarrow with what looked like builders’ sand and he focused on the job, diligently shovelling the material before wheeling the barrow himself.

Kate, 41, who has been Joint President of the Scouts since 2020, looked casual in a denim shirt and black jeans as she helped.

The 3rd Upton Scouts Hut was built in 1982 and is used by a variety of community groups in the area, including the local mosque, a senior citizens contact group for members of the Asian community and the Scout group themselves.

The building is also used by ‘Slough All Nations,’ a group with heritage spanning across St. Kitts & Nevis, and which provides recreation and leisure activities to improve health and wellbeing and promote community cohesion.

In tribute to the King's public service, The Big Help Out – which has been created by some of Britain’s best-known charities – will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas.

The aim of The Big Help Out is to use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation weekend.

While the King and Queen Camilla will not be appearing publicly on Monday, other members of the royal family – including The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne – are taking part in the Big Help Out to wrap up Coronation festivities.

It comes after the couple delighted fans in a surprise appearance ahead of the Coronation concert on Sunday.

William and Kate took part in a walkabout, greeting concert-goers on the Long Walk to Windsor Castle.

Scores of people crowded around the royal couple, with William crouching down to chat to a boy and girl wearing golden crowns. William also told one group of well-wishers: “Enjoy the concert tonight”.

The concert celebrations were a spectacular affair, as the royal family and 20,000 members of the public gathered on the East Terrace of Windsor Castle.

The event, which was also attended by several winners of the Royal Voluntary Service's Coronation Champions Awards, was hosted by Paddington and Downton Abbey star, Hugh Bonneville.

It saw stellar performances from the likes of Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Nicole Scherzinger, Olly Murs and Take That.
