Louise Thompson shared a candid post ahead of a weekend of solo parenting as she admitted feeling “delighted but anxious” at the prospect of looking after Leo alone for a few days.
The Made In Chelsea star, 32, has experienced a tumultuous start to parenthood, spending the weeks after her son’s birth in hospital facing life-threatening health issues.
She has since been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and drug-induced lupus. In January, she found herself back in hospital after haemorrhaging and losing three pints of blood.
Louise has been supported by her 32 year old fiancé Ryan Libbey, who has also spoken candidly about how her health struggles have impacted his mental health.
Now, Ryan has jetted off to Switzerland for some self-care in the form of a spa weekend with a pal and Louise has said she’s excited for him “to come back in a stella mood and be a great parent and partner.”
In a lengthy Instagram post, she added: “So I guess that means i'm home alone with Leo…just the two of us happily manning the fort like the big brrrrrave dogs that we are.
“I'm excited to prove that I can do it… more for myself than anyone else. It's been many months since I've had the house to myself.”
“I haven’t done it since my haemorrhage in January. By ‘done it’ I mean be alone. I haven’t spent a great deal of time alone. I feel delighted and anxious.”
The post accompanied beautiful snaps of Louise in the London sunshine, as she posed in a bright green outfit originally intended to be worn on a trip the family were forced to cancel.
She continued: “I feel free, totally liberated yet also a little trapped. Three full days. I had a fleeting moment where I panicked that I might not wake up? What then? My parents both happen to be away this weekend too.
“What if I just die? This isn’t me being unnecessarily anxious now is it? The risk must be higher now. Anything is possible.”
“The reality is I’m going to be fine,” Louise said. “The worst is over. Thoughts are thoughts. Any other solo parents kicking around this weekend? Or every weekend? Or every day? Kudos to you. You deserve a medal. Actually you’re worth far more than a hunk of metal.”
Louise added that one of her coping mechanisms as a new parent is to plan out each part of the day “to break it down into manageable chunks.”
Louise, Ryan and Leo, one, had been due to jet off to St Lucia in January but were forced to cancel when the mum-of-one suddenly fell ill at their London home.
In late February, they travelled to Switzerland as a family for a fun-filled trip including playing in the snow, seeing the sights and spending quality time together.
In an emotional post about the holiday, Louise wrote: “I woke up this morning and thought damn I’m lucky to be here. I have so many blessings. Thank you to all those looking out for me and thank you to every single person who has stopped me for a chat over the past 15 months.
"There has been a different stranger every single day and you have given me more hope than you will ever know.
"That includes the lady on crutches yesterday if you happen to be reading this (I sincerely hope you are). I hope someone says something nice to you today, you deserve it.”
