Meghan held a ‘grudge’ against Katy Perry over wedding dress comment

Katy Perry claims Meghan Markle’s wedding dress didn’t fit her

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry share a friendly relationship with their neighbours — the pop superstar Katy Perry and her actor fiance, Orlando Bloom.

But while the Los Angeles neighbours might put on a friendly face, a comment made by the famously honest Katy after Meghan and Harry’s wedding might make things slightly awkward.

According to an insider, Meghan has a tendency to “hold a grudge” and is “notorious” for not letting things go.

The trouble all began in 2018 when Katy, who will be on stage performing at King Charles’s Coronation concert this evening — made her thoughts on Meghan’s wedding dress known during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

And in a particularly damning moment, she even compared Meghan’s gown to her sister-in-law Kate’s saying she Kate had “won” a competition for best wedding dress.

Katy, along with and her fellow American Idol judges including Lionel Richie, were asked about Meghan and Harry’s wedding during the interview which fell on the same weekend as the couple’s big day at Windsor Castle.

Lionel, who is also performing at tonight’s concert, sounded emotional as he recalled how he could remember Princess Diana giving birth to both Prince William and Prince Harry. The Hello singer added: “She would be very proud”.

Katy admitted that she did not know much about Meghan and said she was happy for the couple.

But when the popstar was asked what she thought of the dress, she winked at the camera as she said: “I would have gone to one more fitting.”

Lionel made noises as if to disagree, but Katy stood her ground, explaining that she was just being honest about her opinion.

She said: “Kate won. I’m sorry, I’m never not going to tell the truth. One more fitting, but I love you.”

In the wake of the comments, which grabbed headlines around the globe, an anonymous source told the Daily Star how the remarks had rocked the harmony of their Montecito neighbourhood.

The source said: “Orlando is very sympathetic towards Harry and Meghan and does reach out if he ever sees anything suspicious in the neighbourhood.

“However, Meghan is keenly aware of a comment that Katy Perry made in 2018 about her wedding dress and is notorious for holding a grudge…

“I would not expect to see Meghan and Katy carpooling to PTA meetings anytime in the future!”

While the comment was not intended to be hurtful, Meghan had felt “under siege” at the time, the source explained, amidst difficulties with her father, Thomas Markle, and emerging tensions within the Royal Family that became apparent later.

In his memoir Spare, released earlier this year, Harry revealed that he found Meghan “on the floor sobbing” because of an argument she had with Kate in the build-up to the wedding.

And although it has been reported that Orlando and Harry are friends, another source told the Daily Star that the Duke of Sussex would describe them as mere acquaintances.
