In another revelation from his bombshell TV interview, Phillip Schofield stated "I have a wonderful marriage", confirming he's still married to his wife of 20 years, Stephanie Lowe.
He then added that the partnership is "not brilliant right now" but continued to praise Stephanie for being an "incredibly supportive wife", throughout the last few weeks in particular.
In the emotionally-charged interview with the BBC, released today, 2 June, he also said sorry to his ex-best friend and co-host, Holly Willoughby, following his admission of an affair with a younger ITV colleague.
Phillip admitted that since coming clean about his affair, he turned to his wife before releasing his confessional statement last week.
And in seeing "no future" in the aftermath of his actions, he is being supported by his loved ones more than ever, who he describes as "two beautiful children who had the most wonderful time as a family, a four is who we are."
Phillip, who came out as gay in 2020 in an emotional TV interview on This Morning, said he has "no plans" to ask Stephanie for a divorce and revealed in the BBC interview that he is still legally married.
He spoke about his difficulties in being happily married while also realising he was gay.
"Something started trying to trip me up and I couldn't figure out what it was," he said. He added that he lost weight, going down to just nine-and-a-half stone, as he battled his confused emotions.
Making his marital status clear, he confirmed that "we are separated but we are very much together."
In a second interview with The Sun, Phillip did admit that his wife was "very, very angry" after his confessions spilled into the public domain, especially after denying the affair for so long when she would ask him about it.
In the interview, he added that his daughters thought he had "screwed up royally" but again, stand by their dad.
Last Friday, 26 May, 61 year old Phillip owned up to a secret affair with one of his much younger ITV colleagues, while still married to Stephanie.
Since then he's lost his This Morning gig, other presenting roles plus millions of pounds in endorsement deals.
Phillip has stepped away from ITV altogether, and will not be presenting the Soap Awards either, with Jane McDonald now fronting the show.
As well as his jaw-dropping affair, he also admitted that he had lied to ITV, his colleagues, management and family, as he issued a grovelling apology for the affair that he called "unwise but not illegal."
In his statement, Phillip said that he met the man in question "when he was a teenager", and wanted help to get into television.
