Phillip Schofield has sensationally admitted to having an affair with a young male runner on This Morning, whilst he was still married to his ex-wife, Stephanie.
The 61 year old, who stepped down from This Morning last Saturday, admitted that the "on-off consensual relationship" happened, as he said it was "not wise but not illegal".
In a statement made to MailOnline, Phillip said that he met the man in question "when he was a teenager", and wanted help to get onto television.
Phillip then said: "It was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over."
He also apologised to MailOnline for "lying" to them about the relationship when the publication published the story earlier this month, as he denied it at the time.
Part of his statement said: "'In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven't been truthful about the relationship.
"But my recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning fuelled speculation and raised questions which have been impacting him, so for his sake it is important for me to be honest now."
Speaking about his omission of the truth, Phillip said: "I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family.
"I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife."
He continued: "I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it."
Phillip expressed that it was his "deepest wish is that both he [the colleague he had an affair with] and his family can now move on with their lives free from further intrusion."
In the lengthy statement, Phillip announced his decision to step down from planned presenting duties on the British Soap Awards, and has totally resigned from ITV altogether, whilst thanking them for "the amazing opportunities" that they've given him.
Furthermore, Phillip has also parted company with his management team YMU after 35 years.
On Saturday, May 20, Phillip left This Morning "with immediate effect" after weeks of rumours of a "feud" with his former co-host, Holly Willoughby, 42, who went on an early break amidst the furore.
