Piers Morgan didn’t hold back as he ripped into the UK’s ‘crap’ Eurovision 2021 entry.

James Newman represented the country at last night’s ceremony, however, it was a disappointing finish for the British hopeful who was the only contestant to score zero points from the jury vote and from the public vote.

As a result, the UK came bottom on the leaderboard.

Weighing in on the results, Piers slammed the singer and his song Embers.

‘The UK didn’t get “nul points” in the Eurovision Song Contest because of some sinister revenge for Brexit,’ he wrote.

‘We got “nul points” because we had a crap song, performed by a crap singer who gave a crap performance. End.’

This year’s Eurovision competition, which was held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, after the show was cancelled in 2020, was won by Italy with rock band Maneskin’s Zitti E Buoni.

Shortly after their victory, singer Damiano David from the winning group Maneskin slammed claims he was using drugs during the show.

His denial followed footage circulating online showing him bending towards the table, leading many to speculate that he was using cocaine. 

Meanwhile, James took his defeat in good humour, drinking a beer and standing up to applause from the live audience in the arena.

The singer, who is the older brother of pop star John Newman, had hoped to win over viewers with his rendition of upbeat track Embers, which was inspired by the end of lockdown.

He performed in front of a crowd of 3,500 fans at the Ahoy arena.

The UK is no stranger to the bottom of the Eurovision leaderboard and came in last place in 2019 with Michael Rice’s Bigger Than Us.
