Queen Elizabeth has been getting lots of suggestions from her medical doctors lately, including them advising her to reportedly stop drinking her nightly martinis, and today was no different. Buckingham Palace confirmed to People this afternoon that, “Her Majesty’s doctors have advised that she should continue to rest for at least the next two weeks.” This new suggestion comes just after the Queen’s medical doctors told her to rest for a few days.
The statement went on: “The doctors have advised that Her Majesty can continue to undertake light, desk-based duties during this time, including some virtual Audiences, but not to undertake any official visits. Her Majesty regrets that this means she will be unable to attend the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, 13th November.”
“However, it remains The Queen’s firm intention to be present for the National Service of Remembrance on Remembrance Sunday, on 14th November,” the statement said in conclusion.
The order comes just after the 95-year-old monarch spent a brief overnight stay in the hospital last week, where she underwent “preliminary investigations” unrelated to COVID-19, according to the BBC. By Thursday, the Queen had returned home and was “in good spirits.” The Palace’s full statement from the time reads:
The BBC also reported that this instance was the Queen’s first hospitalization since 2013.
Since the hospital stay, the Queen has been back to less tedious duties at home, like hosting virtual meetings from Windsor Castle on both Tuesday and Thursday of this week.
Her Majesty intended to attend the Glasgow COP26 climate change summits in two weeks, but recently had to decline event, according a statement from the Palace which was obtained by People.
“Following advice to rest, The Queen has been undertaking light duties at Windsor Castle,” the statement read. “Her Majesty has regretfully decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend the Evening Reception of COP26 on Monday, 1st November.”
The statement went on, “Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the Reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message.”
