‘Royal Christmas will be less formal – with no King’s speech viewing,’ says expert

The Royal Family's Christmas tradition could be a very different occasion this year, as journalist and expert Jennie Bond speculates King Charles III will shake things up at Sandringham.

In the past, Queen Elizabeth II was a respected and beloved grandmother, mother and wife, and as a result, the family treated the important day in the same way, with everyone "curtsying" and "bowing".

With the Queen's speech being an important part of the annual schedule, the rest of the Royals were also said to gather around and watch the monarch's moment on live TV.

This year, Bond has guessed Charles will choose to remove some traditions and make the day much more informal too.

Chatting exclusively to OK!, the presenter shared: "It will be full of nostalgia and some good measure of sadness. There’s going to be that empty place where the Queen sat.

"I presume Charles will not sit there unless they choose to leave it empty.”

She continued: "It will have all the usual traditions of a Sandringham gathering. The family will gather but they’ll be lacking their matriarch.

"It’s always a sad time when you have your first Christmas without the main person.

"Like every other family, they will get used to it but it’ll be slightly different.”

The presenter went on to say that the King's first speech will be "very interesting" but she doesn't believe he'll do it live, just like his mother before him.

"I’m sure he’ll record it a few days before and it’s bound to have some reflection on their loss," the presenter commented, going on to say that the prospect of the Royals all sitting down to watch the address is "archaic" and may be scrapped.

She went on: "Most families by then will be recovering from their large meal and the day’s festive celebrations."

"I suspect it will be less formal. It’ll be a bit less buttoned up," the star suggested.

Bond also told OK! that there is a chance with Charles and Camilla becoming the head of the family, that the Christmas Day festivities could be more of a "traditional" family romp.

The presenter added that the Royal couple have a "great sense of humour and love of people".

It comes as former BBC Royal correspondent Bond also shared her thoughts on scenes in The Crown, where the Queen, played by Imelda Staunton, gave a speech to mark 40 years on the throne.
