Mel Brooks went from a combat engineer in World War II to a well-known name in Hollywood. His hard work led to him winning several awards, including an EGOT. Only a select handful of celebrities have received the significant achievement. 

Getting an EGOT status is not easy and can take years. Brooks became the 8th winner over 20 years ago. His win helped showcase how talented he has been throughout his life. 

How does someone get an EGOT?

After serving in the war, Brooks became a filmmaker, actor, and comedian. His entertainment career took off in the 1950s after writing for the comedy series Your Show of Shows. He worked on the 90-minute variety show for a few years and helped make it successful. 

Brooks also has some theater work during his career. Besides The Producers, he wrote and produced Young Frankenstein. However, most of his work involved film and television. In 1975, Brooks co-wrote the comedy sketch The 2000 Year Old Man. 

A couple of notable films Brooks directed are Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Spaceballs. The latter is a 1987 parody of Star Wars and other sci-fi works. Brooks wanted to make a sequel to the cult classic, but it has yet to come to fruition. 

According to his IMDb page, Brooks is still an active actor. Recently, he lent his voice to Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank. It does not seem like he has plans to retire.
