Celebrate National Smile Month with great ways to improve your oral health

SAY cheese! It’s National Smile Month, a push to raise awareness about oral health.

A third of us don’t know oral issues are linked to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory problems and dementia. Today we look at oral health while our Beauty Editor examines eyeshadow palettes.

GUMS

  • Colgate Gum Invigorate Revitalise toothpaste, 75ml, on offer at boots.com for £2.50 – buy now

Our gums form a seal around each tooth, providing a barrier against bacteria, and are a living organ just like skin that we need to take care of.

Colgate Gum Invigorate Revitalise toothpaste contains minerals and ginseng extract and reduces bacteria on the gum line to build resilience and strengthen gums up to four times more than regular toothpaste.

I love it. Minty with an earthy aftertaste.

PERFECT SMILE

  • SmileDirectClub, from £1,539, smiledirectclub.co.uk – check out now

Teeth straightening specialist SmileDirectClub has launched a mobile clinic on wheels to help tackle the dental crisis.

Its SmileBus will tour the country offering free 30-minute appointments and 3D imaging in towns and cities.

A UK-registered dentist or orthodontist will review the information collected to decide if you are suitable for teeth straightening.

GET CHECKED OUT

  • Bupa checkups, start from around £30, bupa.co.uk/dental – check out now

Some are having to wait three years for dentist appointments while others are being removed from practice lists for not getting checked sooner, according to a damning report on the state of dentistry.

One option is to go private.

Bupa checkups start from around £30 in England and Scotland, £40 in Wales and Northern Ireland.

BUDGET

  • W7 Cosmetics, Blazin’ eyeshadow palette, £6.95, w7makeup.co.uk – buy now

A 12-shade eyeshadow palette ranging from natural nudes to warm oranges and browns.

Comes with an eyeshadow brush and features both matte and shimmer shades.

The colours were easy to apply and blended well.

A pretty good copy of the Urban Decay palette . . . for a fraction of the price.

MID-RANGE

  • Mac Cosmetics’ Art Library Nude Model, £39, maccosmetics.co.uk – buy now

This palette developed by Mac Pro make-up artists features 12 neutral, pink and golden-brown powders in a mixture of shimmer and matte shades.

The colours are a little flatter than in the photo, but they are highly pigmented, extremely blendable and work well to achieve a variety of looks.

Can be used wet or dry and applied with fingers, a brush or a sponge.

The dark browns work well for filling my brows too.

LUXURY

  • Urban Decay Naked3 eyeshadow palette, £45, urbandecay.co.uk – buy now

This has 12 shades in rose and neutral colours. The palette comes with a mirror as well as a double- ended brush, which is brilliant for make-up applications on the go.

The brush applied product really well and the shadows are highly pigmented so only a small amount gave great depth of colour.

They blend easily and this palette has matte, pearl and shimmer shades to achieve many different looks.

The shadow stayed all day – no need to re-apply. My fave.
