Husband sparks fury after telling his wife to clean their 'filthy' house just to keep his mum happy

A MAN has been collectively branded an ''a**hole'' after telling his wife to clean up their home in order to keep his mum impressed.

The husband shared the post on Reddit's AITA (Am I the A**hole) section, where he revealed what had taken place – without realising the criticism that would subsequently follow.

In the anonymous post, reported by Newsweek, the man said that his mum had visited the couple's house whilst he was away at work and later on ''went on a long rant'' complaining how ''filthy and cluttered'' the place was.

The mum, according to him, also added that the daughter-in-law almost kicked her out after she had pointed out the conditions of the house.

''I just noded and uh-um'd through the entire call then went home thinking this was no big deal.

''But once I walked in, my wife started arguing with me about my mom berating her for the state of the house and calling it names like filthy and calling my wife names like gypsy.''

It appeared that the poster was unaware of how upset his mum's behaviour had left the wife, as he then attempted to say it was no big deal, claiming ''she's like this with my brother's wife too''.

''let's be honest here, She should've tidied up the house if she didn't want any negative comments from mom or any other guest for that matter.

The wife, he wrote in the post, said she had had no time to clean up as she's busy with looking after kids, and added the mother should've had the ''basic human decency'' to let her know she was planning to pop by.

He continued: ''She said if I was okay with the kids hearing my mom's despicable words then she's not.

''She then argued about how I shouldn't blame her for not tidying up the house when there's so much on her plate already.

"I said I get it but she was really making a big [deal] out of it. Now I could talk to mom about visiting times but I think that my wife is to blame too here.

"My wife was mortified and is saying she'll go through to no longer allow my mom into the house if this keeps happening and the fight just got worse."

Since being uploaded, the post has seen over a thousand of comments, with many branding his behaviour as that of an ''a**hole''.

''Treating cleanliness around the house as it were the wife's responsibility and not a shared chore. Double unsupportive,'' pointed out one.

Another agreed: ''I personally think if one person stays at home and the other one works then it's the job of the SAH [stay at home] person to keep the house clean and tidy.

''Saying that you throw children into the mix and it changes. They're hard f***ing work, man.

''So housework becomes the job of both people in the relationship.''

''I am disgusted by you, and I hope a divorce is in your near future,'' read one of the many critical comments.

''Then you can move back in with mommy and deal with her BS.''
