A SAVVY shopper revealed how she picked up some essentials in her local supermarket and ended up not paying a penny.
Instead, she actually got paid £1.10 – and she said there’s a simple hack she relies on to make money as she shops.
The woman proudly posted on social media to show what she’d managed to get on her most recent shopping trip.
Alongside a picture of her purchases – including Evian waters and Pampers baby wipes – she wrote in the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK about how she’d done it.
She explained: “Freebie shopping day. I actually made £1.10 on this shop.”
The haul also included two packets of Love Corn for snacking, Soreen bars, some pet treats and some maple flavour syrup.

So how did the customer manage to take home the items and make money in the process?
She revealed: “I used cashback apps shopmium, checkoutsmart and greenjnn.
“Checkoutsmart and swagbucks are owned by the same company, so sometimes you can’t claim the same cashback on both, sometimes you can.”
She continued to say in the post that she’d also been issued a £2 voucher for Pampers, which meant she got the wipes for free.

However, the woman pointed out that she hadn’t made the purchases for herself and, instead, would be donating to someone else in need in the form of a food bank.
Cashback apps such as these can make a real difference to a total bill. To use them, you can either claim items they have featured for free.
Or, in this woman’s case, accumulate a percentage of the money you have spent and redeem it through cashback – but only when you buy eligible items and if you’ve kept and uploaded the receipt properly.
But, as a writer from Money Saving Expert once warned, there are many things to consider.
They explained: “There is a bit of legwork, but it’s easy to do.
“And remember, this is about getting discounts on items you would normally buy, not being tempted to buy something you don’t need.”
Another pro said there are some other things that you must also bear in mind while spending.
Before signing up to any cashback service, it’s important to check the terms and conditions for any hidden costs
A personal finance expert from NerdWallet called Brean Horne told MSN: “Most cashback sites and apps are free to register with and use, although some companies offer 'premium memberships' with an annual subscription cost for members to receive access to the best deals.
“Before signing up to any cashback service, it’s important to check the terms and conditions for any hidden costs.”
She continued that the amount of time it takes to accumulate the points can vary from app to app, or site to site.
She explained: “It’s worth noting that you may need to build up a certain amount of earnings before you can redeem your money. And depending on your spending habits, this may take a while to accumulate.”
Meanwhile, her third and final piece of financial advice is to keep aware at all times and only spend within your budget and beware of any sites saying you can “get rich quickly”.

She said: “Remember, cashback sites and other rewards platforms take time to build up rewards and the process for earning will be clearly outlined in their Ts & Cs. So, if something sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.”
